chocolate chip banana cake

Chocolate Chip Banana Cake

I’m finally back to cooking and baking and what better way to start than by making my mom a cake for mother’s day! I’m not going to lie, the inspiration for this cake came from a banana bundt cake candle that we were burning all of April. One morning I decided the candle smelled so good I wanted to make a cake just like it. Thus, the Chocolate Chip Banana Cake with a Cinnamon Sugar Glaze was born. This cake is super fruity, satisfies a chocolate lovers cravings, and takes things over the top with the cinnamon sugar glaze. If you’re tired of making banana bread for dessert and want something with more flavor, then this cake is for you. It is perfect for the upcoming summer season!

the details of banana cake

Chocolate Chip Banana Cake is pretty simple. It is basically banana bread, but less dense and more airy. The cake also only takes 30 minutes to bake; which compared to my favorite banana bread recipe is nothing! On top of that, the cake is made in ONE bowl. That means barely any dishes, which I am all about.

My banana cake has three different flavors that create a triple threat. Going heavy on the bananas allows for a super fruity, naturally sweet and moist cake. The addition of chocolate chips takes the flavor up a notch, as banana and chocolate are like two peas in a pod. Finally, the cinnamon sugar glaze adds a little more sweetness and prevents the cake from feeling too crumby and dry.

All in all, my banana cake is super delicious and easy to make!

cake substitutes

While this banana cake is pretty dang good as is, there are some adjustments that can be made. For starters, the cake can be made without a glaze. Instead you can leave it bare or add you favorite frosting. I’d personally put chocolate or peanut butter frosting on!

Going off of that, the cake can be made without chocolate chips or with other types of dessert chips. While it may seem odd, butterscotch chips pair really amazing with banana and would dominate this cake!
