cheesesteak stromboli

Cheesesteak Stromboli

Stromboli is a delicious Italian-American turnover full of meats and cheeses. While it’s more traditional to have a ham, salami and other Italian meats in a stromboli, cheesesteak meat (shaved ribeye) is also a very popular filling in Philly and the tri-state area. Cheesesteak Stromboli’s just make my mouth water whenever I think of them. The crisp and fluffy pastry, buttered with parmesan and parsley, and stuffed with steak and cheese hits the spot every time. What makes them even better is they are super easy to make at home!

the details of cheesesteak stromboli

I personally used steak meat for this recipe, but you could easily substitute with shaved chicken steak. Depending on where you live this can be hard to find, but I typically get mine at Italian Bakeries.

When it comes to cooking the meat, I just keep it simple and use salt and pepper. That’s how they do it in Philly and when you cook beef right, salt and pepper is sometimes all you need! Once the meet is done, you just take some store-bought or homemade pizza dough and place the steak in the middle. Then fill it with slices of your favorite cheese. I like American with cheesesteaks the most, but provolone would also work in this case. Finish the stromboli off by wrapping it shut and coating it with a butter, parmesan, and parsley mixture, and slicing the top for like a pie.

Simple, with so many delicious flavors going on. Anyone who enjoys cheesesteaks and Italian food will love this dish!

I always make a side of pizza sauce to dip the stromboli in. While I wouldn’t eat a pizza steak, this is my exception because pizza shops give us sauce with the stromboli; and honestly it completes the meal.

Cook Time22 minutes
Total Time22 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1-2 lbs shaved steak meat/cheesesteak meat
  • 7 slices American cheese
  • 1 store-bought pizza dough
  • salt
  • pepper
  • butter
  • parsley
  • parmesan

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400.
  • Start by cooking the steak meat. I cook the meat for a bit, get the grease out, then add the salt and pepper.
  • Once the meat is cooked, take the pizza dough and put it on a sheet pan. Place the meet down the middle of the dough longways (see instagram reel). Then line the cheese on top.
  • Next you will close the stromboli. I just place both sides in, press, and flip. Its easiest to flip with foil and another sheet pan.
  • After this, create the butter mixture. Just combine butter, parsley, and parmesan to taste and brush it on the top. Cut 4 slits for air.
  • Bake the stromboli for 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
  • Serve hot with pizza sauce or ketchup. Enjoy!
