Kansas City Style Baby Back Ribs

Day 8 of  my 12 Days of Super Bowl Recipes calls for a very Super Bowl themed recipe. I’ve decided to create recipes for both teams in the Super Bowl. The first recipe I have is dedicated to the the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City style barbecue is something near and dear to everyone’s hearts, not even those just living in Kansas City. Kansas City barbecue sauce is the epitome of barbecue sauce, it’s what everyone thinks of when they hear the term bbq. The thick and sugary sauce is so yummy and perfect for all types of barbecued meats. Pairing Kansas City Barbecue sauce with my baby back ribs is a no brainer. The dry rub I like to put on the ribs can be a bit spicy, but the sauce helps tone that down and brings out a sweet and spicy combo that we all know and love!

I’ll admit, when it comes to ribs or any kind of barbecue, the best kind is made in a smoker. Since I don’t have one, I found the second best thing is to slow cook the ribs in the oven, then grill them for a few minutes to get a charred taste. The reason you can’t just grill the ribs is because slow cooking allows the meat to get tender and fall off the bone. As with any barbecued meat, tenderness is ideal, as it melts in our mouths and makes the food taste that much better.

As for the sauce, Kansas City Barbecue Sauce is a classic. Brown Sugar, ketchup, and a few spices come together to make a sweet and tangy barbecue sauce. Kansas City’s sauce is nice and thick, meaning it coats really well on meats. I like this because I like a lot of flavor and therefore want everything to be covered. If you like Sweet Baby Ray’s or any traditional barbecue sauce, then you’ll love my version of Kansas City’s sauce. It is so tasty and pairs really really well with my ribs! nd

If you want things to be a little less sweet, you can make my ribs, but use a different barbecue sauce. As some of you may know there are tons of different barbecue styles. One that stands out in particular is North Carolina’s barbecue sauces. The sauces on both sides of the state are very vinegar based, therefore making them more tangy and less sweet. No matter what, whichever sauce you use will make the ribs taste amazing!
